ER Oakley

ER Oakley was an anazing story for Marci and I.  We had a real good Arabian Purebred mare from the years Marci showed partbreds in the Open Horse shows of Southern Alberta.   We bred the mare to our great Quarter Horse cow horse stallion and the mare foaled  Oakley.   When Oakley was in training Gord Hester recognized her potential.  She was definitely a sale horse as by now we were immersed in the  Reined Cow Horse World.  Gord suggested that if we wanted a good dollar to take her to Scottsdale and compete her in the Junior Partbred Reining.  So off to Scottsdale we went.  She was in a reining class as a three year old in a class of 4’s and 5’s.  She acted like a teenage girl at her first sock hop.  When the class was over a trainer that worked with Dick Ames at Cedar Ridge Arabians asked to try her.  She got on the the hitching ring and rode her and she sold that evening to Dick.  Little did we know that she ended up in the hands of the very accomplished Crystal McNutt.  We returned the next year to Scottsdale and low and behold Crystal and Oakley were entered in the $80,000 Partbred Reining Event (at that time the flagship class of Scottsdale reining world).  She finished in the Top Ten against the best Partbred’s in the US.  Pepi Kola worked magnificently but so did our old ranch horse sire on that great Arabian mare.  That story is on ER Picaboo’s page!
