ER U Talk Cash
We were so fortunate to be motivated to buy a Pepinics Master mare as a mate for Pepi Kola. We inquired around to find out if there was a mare out there that would work in our program. This was a big deal as we were shopping for a horse for the first time in Twenty Five Years! We sell a lot of horses from our program which is based on our home grown mares and stallions plus a few strategic out cross breedings. Ed Masson at Myterra Ranch had Fancy Lil Flit for sale who is a full sister to Clint Christiansen’s cutting mare Pepinics Belle. So we packed our lunch and headed north east to Cadogan to see Ed and Connie’s mare. We took the trailer because if you travel all the way to Cadogan you may as well buy. Buy we did….a real sweet mare in foal the Gary Coopers fine stud out of Cherlina and Nu Cash (Lena Talks Cash). We were focussed on the mare not the future foal until the mare foaled. Ohhhhhh! Myyyyy! Gawd. What a ripper! We stood and marvelled until it hits us that we now owned a third stud. This guy is built to last….big bone, hip and feet. He is athletic looking carved like a body builder. He is quiet! He loves the cow as a respected adverary to be defeated at any opportune moment. He went into the show pen as a snaffle bitter and his three year old year was highlighted by a Canadian Supreme Reserve Champion Snaffle Bit title. Interestingly the same that was accomplished in 1999 by his stable mate Pepi Kola. Jess Thomson has shown him numerous times on both sides of the border. He is a winner. As a four year old he was snake bitten out of the herd in the derbies….just plain old bad luck a couple of times were buzzer beaters to the back fence after a third cut. This winter Jess asked and recommended that he have him to rope off of and this is where the 2011 excitement is happening. He is so keen in the box as he crouches waiting for Jess to nod. He gets on the cow so quick affording Jess a quick shot and a short rope dally. His big hip and muscular stock turns the steer on a dime and gives the heeler that “looking so good” moment. This is not to lay a whole bunch of credit on Cash as Jess is as skilled with a rope as there is. Will he return to the cow horse pen or go to the roping futurities? Nice problem to have. The exciting thing for Marci and I is it opens up a whole new can of people to mix with at the ropings (many being long term friends from the past). The other dynamic is that as a sire there may be a bigger door that opens for his services on ranch and rope horse mares. At the last roping we had two offers to purchase. Darn it hurts when your whole program revolves around selling horses and the one the buyers want is the one we want to keep. You will hear a lot more from U Talk Cash as a five year old Derby horse! The picture below taken by Natalie Jackman is my favorite horse picture ever and it tells in way less than 1000 words the kind of presence this boy has!
